[Notice] Update to the Submission Language Policy for Korea Haiku World Youth Festival 2026
Thank you to all participants around the world for your interest in Korea Haiku World Youth Festival 2026.
To make the festival more accessible to young people from different countries and to reduce the burden created by language barriers, we have revised the official submission language policy as follows.
Revised Submission Language Policy
The official submission languages are:
Korean · English · Japanese
Participants may choose one of these three languages as the original language of their work.
To help judges understand the meaning, context, and poetic nuances of each work more accurately, participants must also submit a translation in at least one of the other two languages.
For example:
Original in Korean → English or Japanese translation
Original in English → Korean or Japanese translation
Original in Japanese → Korean or English translation
The translation will be used as a reference to support understanding and judging, while the original work chosen by the participant will remain the primary basis for evaluation.
This adjustment is intended to prevent language itself from becoming a barrier to participation and to allow young people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds to share their sense of nature, seasons, everyday life, and poetic discovery through short-form poetry.
The festival encourages works that reflect the aesthetic orientation of Korea Haiku, including seasonal feeling, concrete objects and scenes, moments of discovery, and a sense of openness and resonance. These creative principles apply equally whether the original work is written in Korean, English, or Japanese.
The revised policy will be reflected in the official application guidelines and the submission system.
We hope Korea Haiku World Youth Festival 2026 will continue to grow as an international literary space where young people can connect across languages and cultures through poetry.
Thank you.
